Trade critical to ocean sustainability — DG Okonjo-Iweala at UN Ocean Conference

By aligning trade policies with ocean sustainability, we can better support sustainable development while protecting the oceans, Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said at the opening session of the United Nations Ocean Conference taking place from 9 to 13 June in Nice, France. Emphasizing the crucial role the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies will play in protecting fish stocks and supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities, she encouraged WTO members that have not yet ratified it to do so promptly so that the Agreement can enter into force as soon as possible.
