Amaravati, Mar 8 (KNN) Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has announced plans to develop 7 GW of green energy projects in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant investment in India’s clean energy future.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, is exploring a massive 7-gigawatt (GW) renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, the company announced on Friday.

The initiative, which includes solar, wind, and hybrid energy solutions, is expected to cost approximately 490 billion Indian rupees (USD 5.63 billion), making it one of the state’s largest renewable energy investments.

This expansion aligns with Tata Power’s broader commitment to scaling up its renewable energy capacity, with an investment target of USD 9 billion over the next five years.

India has pledged to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power generation capacity by 2030, but it still lags behind its earlier target of 175 GW by 2022.

The Andhra Pradesh government is also focusing on developing over 160 GW of renewable energy, with an estimated investment potential of 10 trillion rupees.

Many states are actively working on independent clean energy portfolios due to the high costs of purchasing power from federal projects and challenges in interstate transmission infrastructure.

Despite India issuing a record-breaking 73 GW of renewable energy tenders in 2024, around 8.5 GW remained undersubscribed due to complex bidding structures and transmission delays.

Additionally, India’s unsigned renewable power agreements have exceeded 40 GW, highlighting the need for streamlined policies and infrastructure upgrades.

Tata Power’s latest move signals a strong push toward India’s green energy transition, reinforcing its role as a key player in the nation’s ambitious renewable energy goals.
