PNB reports ₹270.57 crore fraud in NPA account to RBI

Punjab National Bank has reported a fraud of ₹270.57 crore to the Reserve Bank of India in the non-performing account of Bhubaneswar-based Gupta Power Infrastructure Ltd.

The public sector bank, in a regulatory filing, said it has already made provisions amounting to ₹270.57 crore, as per prescribed prudential norms.

The number of frauds (borrowal, non-borrowal and digital) reported by the public sector bank jumped to 7112 (aggregating ₹1803.59 crore) in FY25 from 289 (aggregating ₹1809.10 crore) in FY24, per PNB’s latest annual report.

Provisions made towards the aforementioned accounts was lower at ₹1442.67 crore (₹1802.68 crore).
