Shares of IndusInd Bank Ltd, Ultratech Cement Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, and Titan Company Ltd emerged as the top gainers on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), M&M Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd, and Eternal Healthcare Ltd saw significant losses.
After an impressive seven-day winning streak, the BSE Sensex dropped 315.06 points or 0.39 per cent, closing at 79,801.43. The NSE Nifty also declined 0.34 per cent or 82.25 points, ending the day at 24,246.70. The downturn was attributed to the expiry of monthly derivatives and profit-booking following recent gains.
Top gainers
IndusInd Bank surged 3.24 per cent to ₹819.65. Ultratech Cement followed, rising 1.80 per cent to ₹12,163.15, driven by a positive outlook in the cement sector.
Tata Motors added 1.26 per cent, closing at ₹668.20, while Sun Pharma gained 0.87 per cent to ₹1,804.50. Titan rounded off the top five, climbing 0.83 per cent to ₹3,384.35.
Top losers
Hindustan Unilever (HUL) was the biggest loser, plunging 4.00 per cent to ₹2,325 following disappointing quarterly results. M&M fell 0.57 per cent to ₹2,900.85, while Eternal Healthcare dropped 1.17 per cent to ₹236.40.
ICICI Bank declined 1.53 per cent to ₹1,402.25, and Bharti Airtel ended 1.96 per cent lower at ₹1,844.80.
The day’s losses were mainly driven by HUL’s disappointing results, which impacted the FMCG sector. The market also saw some consolidation after recent gains.
