Share prices of Tata Motors Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd., Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd., Eternal Energy Ltd., and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. emerged as the top gainers on Thursday.
IndusInd Bank Ltd. was the sole stock among the laggards.
The BSE Sensex jumped 1,200.18 points or 1.48 per cent to close at 82,530.74, while the NSE Nifty 50 soared 395.20 points or 1.60 per cent to settle at 25,062.10, breaching the key psychological level of 25,000. All sectoral indices ended in the green, reflecting a broad-based rally driven by strong buying sentiment.
Top gainers
Tata Motors led the pack, climbing 4.16 per cent to ₹728.05 on upbeat investor sentiment following positive auto sales data.
HCL Technologies rose 3.37 per cent to ₹1,692.90, supported by strength in IT stocks.
Adani Ports advanced 2.60 per cent to ₹1,406.65, while Eternal Energy gained 2.36 per cent to ₹242.40.
Maruti Suzuki added 2.17 per cent to close at ₹12,947.30.

IndusInd Bank was the only stock in the red, dipping 0.16 per cent to ₹780.30 amid mild profit-booking.
The session witnessed a strong recovery from intraday lows, with Nifty touching a high of 25,116. Sector-wide optimism was reinforced by better-than-expected April auto sales data and strong participation in derivatives. Volatility remained in check as the India VIX edged down to 17.14, pointing to improved investor confidence.
