New Delhi, Mar 10 (KNN) Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, released a significant study on Saturday titled “Enabling Women’s Participation in India’s Logistics Sector.”

The study was developed through a collaborative effort between DPIIT and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the Indo-German Development Cooperation project, “Climate Friendly Green Freight Transport in India (Green Freight Project),” according to a release issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The comprehensive study provides a detailed assessment of women’s current participation levels in India’s logistics sector, which is projected to reach USD 380 billion by 2025.

It analyses the key challenges that impede women’s inclusion in this rapidly growing industry and recommends specific policy measures designed to enhance gender diversity within the sector.

During the release event, Secretary Bhatia emphasised the study’s importance within the broader context of the National Logistics Policy and the government’s vision for women-led development.

“As we move towards Viksit Bharat, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the one thing that will take the country forward is women-led development.

Ensuring women’s participation in high-growth sectors like logistics is not only a matter of equity but also an economic necessity,” he stated.

The DPIIT Secretary further highlighted education’s transformative role in changing perceptions and empowering women in the workforce.

“The capability of women is equal to that of men; what is needed is a shift in mindset. Women may have different requirements, which the workplace infrastructure and ecosystem must be able to provide,” Bhatia added, underscoring the need for adaptive workplace environments.

The study identifies several barriers to women’s participation, categorising them as both supply-side challenges, such as gender disparities in education and skill training opportunities, and demand-side barriers, including workplace culture issues and infrastructure limitations.

To address these multifaceted challenges, the report proposes a comprehensive three-tiered approach that involves strategic interventions at the ecosystem, industry, and firm levels to create a holistic framework for meaningful change in the sector.
