New Delhi, May 22 (KNN) The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has established a collaboration with the Patent Office of Denmark under the Support for Commercialisation of IP programme (MSME-SCIP) to streamline intellectual property rights acquisition for Indian MSMEs.
The partnership aims to address longstanding challenges in technology transfer and IP protection that have historically limited innovation access for smaller enterprises.
Through the ministry’s network of Intellectual Property Facilitation Centres, the collaboration will establish structured processes for MSMEs to acquire patents, trademarks, and technology licenses.
The framework addresses a critical gap in the innovation ecosystem where technology holders have been reluctant to engage with Indian enterprises due to concerns over intellectual property protection.
The partnership will create formal mechanisms ensuring technology innovators receive appropriate royalty compensation while providing MSMEs with access to advanced technologies, a ministry official familiar with the initiative told ET.
This structured approach is expected to build confidence among international technology holders previously hesitant to engage with the Indian market.
The collaboration includes comprehensive capacity-building components, with Denmark Patent Office experts developing specialised curricula for Indian IP facilitation centers.
These training programs will enhance the technical expertise of IPFC personnel in patent application processes, trademark registration, and broader intellectual property management practices.
The initiative extends beyond administrative improvements to foster broader ecosystem development.
By bringing together MSMEs, industry leaders, and academic institutions, the program seeks to create an environment that encourages both IP protection and commercial application of innovations.
Financial support represents a significant component of the program, with the ministry committed to covering seventy percent of registration and acquisition costs for participating enterprises.
The ministry has established an ambitious target of facilitating 2,500 innovation registrations during the 2025-26 fiscal year.
