Mumbai, Mar 7 (KNN) Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan stated on Wednesday that Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the state will experience significant growth opportunities following the commencement of operations at the Rs 76,000 crore Vadhavan port and the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The Governor made these remarks while addressing the Maharashtra Industries & SME Summit in Mumbai, jointly organised by the Maharashtra Industry Development Association (MIDA) and SME Chamber of India.
During his address, he emphasised the crucial role of SMEs in realising the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) and commended MIDA and the SME Chamber for their efforts in strengthening SMEs, manufacturing industries, and startups.
Governor Radhakrishnan highlighted the importance of these enterprises in transforming India into a USD 5 trillion economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
He expressed confidence that Maharashtra’s economic landscape would be significantly transformed once the Vadhavan Port and Navi Mumbai airport become operational.
This statement comes just three days after the Governor, addressing a joint session of the state legislature, noted that Maharashtra remains a preferred destination for Foreign Direct Investment.
He pointed out that the state contributes over 14 percent to India’s total GDP, maintaining its position as one of the country’s leading industrial states.
The Governor further elaborated on the state government’s decision to develop 10 Integrated Industrial Parks and Integrated Logistics Parks. These initiatives aim to enhance industrial growth, improve supply chain efficiency, and create a world-class business ecosystem across the state.
Additionally, the state government has approved the launch of the “Maharashtra Technical Textiles Mission” to strengthen and expand Maharashtra’s textile sector.
With this initiative, Maharashtra becomes the first state in India to launch such a mission that aligns with the Central government’s National Technical Textiles Mission, further solidifying its leadership position in the textile industry.
The National Technical Textiles Mission, established by the Textiles Ministry, aims to position India as a global textile manufacturing hub by developing a USD 250 billion textile industry and achieving USD 100 billion in global textile exports by 2030.
This will be accomplished by focusing on high-tech and high-growth product segments, leveraging inherent strengths, developing large-scale infrastructure, maintaining sustainability, ensuring livelihood opportunities, supporting traditional sectors, and becoming self-reliant in the raw material value chain.
