Jammu, Mar 4 (KNN) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has reported substantial economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, highlighting record tourist numbers in 2024 as a key indicator of the region’s improving economic landscape.
According to Sinha, the territory has experienced significant advancement in industrial development and investment activities, positioning J&K on a positive trajectory.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasised the impact of the new central sector scheme, which features an allocation of Rs 28,400 crore and provides crucial incentives including capital investment support and interest subvention.
These financial mechanisms have become instrumental in driving industrial expansion throughout the region. Statistical evidence of this growth is reflected in the 971 units already registered under the scheme, while an additional 1,150 units are currently in the process of securing benefits.
Development activities continue to progress with 889 units currently under construction, and 324 of these are expected to commence production operations in the near future.
Sinha also noted that the government has implemented proactive measures to enhance recruitment processes, establishing systems that prioritise transparency, merit-based selection, and operational efficiency.
Infrastructure development remains a priority for the administration, with the Lieutenant Governor specifically commending the recent inauguration of the Sonamarg Tunnel by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further noted that the completion of two critical segments of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway—the Banihal Bypass and Ramban Bypass—has substantially reduced travel time between key destinations.
Looking ahead, Sinha affirmed that ongoing infrastructure projects, including expressways, highways, and ring roads for both Jammu and Srinagar, will be expedited to ensure they are completed according to established timelines.
