DPIIT Launches Startup Maha Rathi Challenge With Rs 30 Crore Fund

New Delhi, Mar 1 (KNN) The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has launched the Startup Maha Rathi challenge as part of the second edition of Startup Mahakumbh. 

This flagship initiative is a collaborative effort with Avaana Capital, LetsVenture, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), IVCA, HDFC, and other partners, aimed at providing Indian startups with funding, mentorship, and strategic guidance. 

The program aligns with India’s long-term vision of becoming a developed economy (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.

The challenge offers participating startups access to a substantial Rs 30 crore fund, industry mentorship, and valuable networking opportunities with global investors. 

It also features special awards designated for startups fr0m emerging states and union territories. Selected startups will gain national recognition and access to global markets through the Startup India platform.

Entrepreneurs across 11 key sectors are eligible to participate, including AI & DeepTech, BioTech & HealthTech, Gaming & Sports, Fintech, Incubators & Accelerators, Mobility, Agritech, B2B & Precision Manufacturing, D2C (Direct-to-Consumer), ClimateTech and Defence & SpaceTech. 

Financial rewards for participants include Rs 1 lakh for each shortlisted startup, with the top two startups fr0m each sector receiving Rs 10 lakh each.

The next five startups will be awarded Rs 5 lakh each, while the following five will receive Rs 3 lakh each.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal described the initiative as a ‘pivotal stride toward achieving India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047,’ emphasising the comprehensive financial support and mentorship provided to participating startups.

DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia highlighted the importance of fostering an innovation-driven culture to support high-potential startups across the country. 

Anjali Bansal, Founding Partner, Avaana Capital, stated that Startup Maha Rathi will catalyse growth in critical areas such as sustainability, energy transition, and deep tech, reinforcing India’s global leadership in entrepreneurship.

Applications for Startup Maha Rathi 2025 will open on February 26, 2025, with submissions accepted until March 7, 2025. 

Shortlisted startups will present their ideas to a jury panel between March 15-25, 2025. To be eligible, startups must be DPIIT-recognised and operating as a Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership, or Partnership Firm in India.

This initiative is positioned to provide a high-impact platform for emerging entrepreneurs, ensuring they receive the necessary resources to scale their businesses and contribute meaningfully to India’s economic growth trajectory.
