Gift Nifty was down 1.24% at around 9.44 am, against the Gift Nifty futures Friday close 22.958.15. Sensex crashed 2721.01 pts or 3.61% to 72,643.68 as at 9.44 am, and Nifty 50 plunged 888.00 pts or 3.88% to 22,016.45.

Market live updates today: Sensex, Nifty sink over 4% in opening trade
As expected the benchmark indices sank in opening trade on Monday. Sensex crashed 3137.10 points or 4.16% to 72,227.59 (opened at 71,449.94), while Nifty 50 plunged 1,010.95 points or 4.41% to 21,893.50.
Metal and IT indices plummet 7-8%. Oil & gas fell 6%, realty and auto depreciated over 5%.
Tariff-rattled markets face another week of potential tariff turmoil, with the global stock plunging over 5 per cent. Investors are hopeful that the stock market may be close to at least a short-term bottom after Trump’s tariffs rocked global asset prices.Â
