Kolkata, Mar 11 (KNN) West Bengal has achieved a significant distinction by leading the country in MSME manufacturing industries while simultaneously recording the highest percentage of women-headed establishments, according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement on Monday.

The Chief Minister referenced the recently published findings of the ‘Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises’ conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO), which highlighted the state’s exceptional performance across multiple economic sectors.

Banerjee shared this information through a post on the social media platform X, expressing pride in the state’s achievements.

“Happy to share that the recently published findings of the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises conducted by the National Statistics Office, Government of India, once again establish Bengal’s top position in MSME manufacturing industries and, simultaneously, our women’s wonderful performance there,” Banerjee stated in her social media post.

The survey revealed that West Bengal has the highest percentage of women-headed establishments in the country, standing at an impressive 36.4 percent.

This statistic underscores the significant role women entrepreneurs play in the state’s economic landscape.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that West Bengal has emerged as the national leader in workers engaged in ‘Manufacturing Enterprises,’ contributing 13.81 percent to the country’s total workforce in this sector.

This indicates the state’s substantial industrial capacity and employment generation in manufacturing.

According to the Chief Minister, “At the all-India level, West Bengal shares the maximum percentage of ‘Manufacturing’ enterprises (16.02 percent) and ‘Other Service’ enterprises (13.09 percent).”

This dual leadership in both manufacturing and service sectors demonstrates the diversity and strength of the state’s economic foundation.

The survey also highlighted West Bengal’s prominence in women’s workforce participation within the Unincorporated Sector Enterprises.

The Chief Minister added that 12.73 percent of the total female workers in this sector nationwide come from West Bengal, further cementing the state’s position as a leader in women’s economic empowerment and participation.
