Tiruchirappalli, Mar 1 (KNN) The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has prepared the potential linked credit plan (PLP) for Trichy district for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, establishing a target of Rs 27,413 crore as the credit to be issued by banks in the district.

Agriculture and MSME sectors have been prioritised in the PLP, with allocations also made for the renewable energy sector to promote sustainable and environment-friendly power generation in large institutions.

Officials stated that the report, released on Thursday, will form the basis for finalising the annual credit plan (ACP) of Trichy district, which is expected to be released in May.

The report will guide local banks in sanctioning loans. Compared to last year’s target of Rs 23,000 crore, the new plan has allocated an additional Rs 4,000 crore.

The PLP report will be utilised by banks to achieve their targets for each sector in the new financial year. It was prepared after gathering inputs from block, district, and state level government departments, banks, and NGOs.

The agriculture sector’s share in the PLP 2025-26 is estimated at Rs 15,242 crore, with farm credit estimated at Rs 13,257 crore.

In response to recent policy initiatives from the Union and state governments to support the MSME sector, the PLP has sanctioned Rs 6,441 crore for MSMEs in the district.

“A background paper based on the PLP will be circulated by the lead bank, along with the block wise and activity wise potential identified. Banks will subsequently prepare their branch level plans,” said M Murugesan, Lead District Manager (LDM), Indian Overseas Bank.

The export sector has been allocated Rs 133 crore, while the housing sector has been sanctioned Rs 2,789 crore.

The informal credit delivery system, comprising microfinance institutions, has been allocated Rs 1,799 crore.

The plan also encourages new buildings to opt for rooftop solar power plants to achieve self-sufficiency in electricity needs.

District Collector M Pradeep Kumar emphasised, “Banks should allocate more targets towards medium and long-term credit in agriculture such as micro irrigation systems and animal husbandry.”

“More focus on other priority sectors like education, housing and renewable energy are also needed for holistic development,” he added.
