Sensex, Nifty up 3%, Top gainers & losers today May 12, 2025 – Adani Group stocks, Shriram Finance, Birla Corporation, Reliance Power, Jio Financial shares shine, pharma, defence stocks in action

Shares of Adani Enterprises, Shriram Finance, Trent, Jio Financial and HCL Tech lead the gainers of Nifty 50 components, while IndusInd Bank and Sun Pharma depreciated.

Equity benchmark indices rebounded sharply following ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Sensex zoomed 2356.87 pts or 2.97 per cent to 81,811.34 as at 12.31 pm, and Nifty 50 jumped 753.85 pts or 3.14 per cent to 24,761.85. The volatility index tumbled 16.68 per cent to 18.02.

All sectoral indices except pharma index traded in positive territory. Realty, IT and metal surged nearly 4 per cent.

Pharma stocks witnessed selling pressure and volatility as US President Donald Trump plans to cut prescription drug prices.

About 2,502 stocks advanced and 253 declined of all the 2,825 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange at 12.08 pm. 264 stocks hit the upper cirucit, including Godfrey Phillips, Birla Corporation, Zaggle and Sagility. BSE, Force Motors, Choice International and CEAT wer41 e among shares hit 52-week high, while 23 others hit 52-week low.

Top gainers & losers today

Adani Enterprises led the gainers with 7.25 per cent jump to ₹2,414.10. Other Adani Group stocks such as Adani Ports, Adani Power, Adani Green Energy, Adani Energy Solutions, AWL, ATGL and ACC surged 3-7 per cent.

Shriram Finance rallied over 7 per cent to ₹647.05 and Trent zoomed 5.22 per cent to ₹5,380. Jio Financial and HCL Technologies soared close to 5 per cent.

On the flip side, IndusInd Bank fell 2.97 per cent to ₹793.90. The bank on Friday said an independent review had found issues that may need to be assessed from an insider trading perspective.

Sun Pharmaceutical followed with 2.80 per cent decline to ₹1,695.90.

Both midcap and smallcap indices shined. Triveni Turbine, HFCL, Sonata and JWL shares rallied 8-9 per cent among smallcap, while Suzlon, RVNL, Escorts and Dixon climbed 7-9 per cent among midcap.

On the BSE, shares of Birla Corporation and Reliance Power lead the gainers with 20 per cent and 13 per cent jumps following Q4 results. Companies including Andhra Cements, Tata Steel, PVR INOX, Raymond, Ather Energy, Bajaj Electricals are set to announce Q4 results today. TRACK Live updates

KPR Mill, Paras Defence, Sun Pharma, IndusInd and Concord shares fell 3-9 per cent.

Defence stocks such as HAL, BEL, Mazagon Dock, Bharat Dynamics, Bharat Forge, Data Patterns, Ideaforge and Paras Defence are also in focus due to geopolitical situation.
