New Delhi, May 7 (KNN) Apple is set to begin manufacturing all models of the iPhone in India in the near future, with plans to export these devices to various countries worldwide, including the United States.

This strategic shift was announced by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during the Bharat Telecom 2025 event, signalling a significant development that could impact China’s manufacturing dominance.

Amid ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China, India is positioning itself as a central hub for mobile manufacturing.

The Union Communications Minister emphasised that Apple’s decision to manufacture all its products and mobile devices in India is driven by both goodwill and sound financial considerations for original equipment manufacturers.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed during an earnings call that beginning in June, most iPhones sold in the US market will be exported from India, making them entirely India-manufactured devices.

Despite this development, the majority of iPhones available in global markets will continue to be produced in China. India-made iPhones have already begun reaching European markets.

Union Minister of State for Communications Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani highlighted India’s remarkable transformation from a mobile importer to a leading exporter.

In 2014, India produced only 6 million mobile phones while importing 210 million units. By 2024, production has increased dramatically to 330 million units, with exports reaching 50 million units, credited largely to Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India initiative.

The Union Communications Minister also reported that 5G connectivity now reaches 99 percent of Indian villages, covering approximately 82 percent of the country’s population.

This connectivity is supported by 470,000 mobile towers that have been erected to establish digital highways for improved mobile communication, potentially benefiting 1.4 billion people across India.
