Shares of Hero Motocorp, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, M&M and Hindustan Unilever traded among top gainers of Nifty 50 components, while Adani Enterprises, Titan, NTPC, Cipla and Trent depreciated.
Equity benchmark indices delivered volatile trends amid geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan and ahead of US Federal Reserve’s policy decision. Sensex declined by 195.44 pts or 0.24 per cent to 80,601.40 as at 12.31 pm and Nifty 50 dropped 62.70 pts or 0.26 per cent to 24,398.45.
Both midcap and smallcap stocks dropped over 1 per cent.
Auto and FMCG showed resilience, while all other sectoral indices declined to trade in red. Nifty PSU bank and realty indices dropped over 2 per cent.
Nearly 672 stocks advanced and 2,055 declined of all the 2,805 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange. About 60 hit the lower circuit and 29 hit the upper circuit.
Godrej Properties, Union Bank, Paytm, Kalyan Jewellers and Cummins declined 3-5 per cent among midcap, while Max Health, Biocon, Yes Bank and Muthoot Finance traded in positive territory.
Among smallcap, Sonata Software, Railtel, HSCL, Reliance Power and Poonawalla Fincorp fell 3-4 per cent, while Newgen and Tejas Networks surged 4 per cent.
On the BSE, CCL shares rallied 14 per cent. Polymed, Godrej Agro and R R Kabel soared 5-7 per cent.
